The Notre Dame Hounds scored five straight goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers at the Westland Insurance Arena. Cohner Saleski scored his first goal as a Terrier, while newly acquired goaltender Tysen Smith stopped 31 of 36 shots in the loss.
Yorkton opened the scoring midway through the first period. After going for a lap in the Notre Dame zone, Saleski stepped into the slot and rifled a shot over the glove of Tucker Inabinet. Less than a minute later the Hounds responded. On a breakout play, Cyprus Smith-Davis broke down the left wing and fired a shot past Smith to make it 1-1. A minute later the Hounds gained their first lead of the game. Jacob Ligi forced a turnover deep in Yorkton territory and found a wide open Antoine Saint-Onge, who made no mistake to make it 2-1 Notre Dame.
The Hounds continued to add to their lead in the second period. At the 13:31 mark, Mathieu Fehr stepped out of the corner and fired a shot on goal. Smith made the first save, but the rebound bounced right to Carson Baylis who shoveled home his seventh goal of the season. Baylis scored his second of the night, this time on the power-play to make it 4-1. The Calgary, Alberta product went flying down the right wing and let a shot go from the right face-off circle, which found its way under Smith. Hounds added one more power-play goal in the third. A point shot from Ligi was stopped by Smith, and Smith-Davis jumped on the rebound for his second goal of the night to make it 5-1.
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday when they host the Estevan Bruins. The game will be on the GX 94 alternate stream with the pre-game at 6:50pm and play-by-play starting at 7:00pm.
