Despite a 46 save effort by Tysen Smith, the Terriers came away from the Elgar Petersen Arena with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Humboldt Broncos. The Broncos got goals from four different players, while Hayden Dunford made 29 saves in the win.
Humboldt opened the scoring on the power-play. A bouncing puck in front of Smith was knocked in by Alec Saretzky to give Humboldt a 1-0 lead. The Broncos had several opportunities to extend their lead in the first period, but Smith made three big saves on re-directions to keep it a 1-0 game after 20 minutes of play.
Humboldt came out firing in the second period. 55 seconds in, Jeter Korte, playing his first career SJHL game, wired a shot into the top corner to extend the home side’s lead to 2-0. A few minutes later, Lucas Ceccarelli forced a turnover in Yorkton’s zone, drove to the net and dropped a pass for Samuel Marburg, who lifted the puck over top of Smith to make it 3-0. Broncos added one more goal in the third period. On the power-play, a point shot from Daylan Weigel was deflected by Maddox Amaral past Smith to make it 4-0 Humboldt.
The Terriers continue their road trip on Tuesday against the Weyburn Red Wings. GX 94 will broadcast the game with the pre-game show at 6:50pm and play-by-play starting at 7:00pm.
