Greg Nelson had the game winning goal with two minutes to go, while Caleb Allen stopped 48 shots, and the Yorkton Terriers walked away with a 3-1 win over the Flin Flon Bombers. Brett Butz and Clay Sleeva also had goals for the Terriers in the win.
Yorkton opened the scoring in the first period. Cohner Saleski chipped the puck to a wide open Butz to make it 1-0 Terriers. The goal was Butz’s second of the season. Flin Flon looked to tie the game late in the frame on the man advantage, but Allen stopped all 15 saves he faced in the frame. Allen continued to stand on his head in the second period. The Lone Tree, Colorado product made outstanding save after outstanding save. The Bombers eventually tied the contest in the middle frame. After Allen robbed Jaedan Mercier, Jaxon Martens grabbed the loose puck and slid it into an empty net to make it 1-1. The Bombers pressed for a go ahead marker, but the scoring dried up until late in the third period.
With two minutes remaining in the contest, a flip pass ended up on the tape of Nelson. The Veteran, Alberta product muscled his way past two defencemen before sliding the puck until Harmon Laser-Hume to make it 2-1 Yorkton. The Terriers got some insurance on the power-play. Saleski picked out a wide open Sleeva in the slot, who fired home his sixth goal of the season with 14 seconds left, and the Terriers marched out to a 3-1 victory.
Yorkton is back in action tomorrow afternoon in La Ronge against the Ice Wolves. GX 94 will broadcast the game on the alternate stream, with the pre-game starting at 2:20pm and play-by-play beginning at 2:30pm.
